Understanding anatomy of genitalia of your child
IN BOYS:
Genital system includes testis, epidydymis, spermatic cord, seminal Vesicle and penis.
From perspective of common genital problems in pediatric age group males, 2 organs testis and penis are more important. Diseases of epidydymis, spermatic cord and seminal vesicles are rare.
TESTIS – There are two testis situated in a bag called as scrotum. Testis produces sperms and male hormone testosterone in future life.
PENIS – Penis is an organ used for urination as well as for sexual function. Penis internally consist of three rod like tissue called as corpora. Erection in penis is due to filling of extra blood in corpora during sexual arousal. Penis is supposed to be straight for successful intercourse.
IN GIRLS
Genital system in girls include vagina, uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries.
In children, vagina is very small. Uterus is also in small size.
